S.V. mayor offers flimsy excuse for closing camp

Re "Spring Valley Mayor defends closing of summer youth program," lohud video:

The explanation for the closing of the summer youth program for 50 children seems to be, according to Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme, that no one working in the program had the required CPR certification. Actually, there are many services that can provide the training and certification in about one day. So Delhomme, according to his own statement, closed the program for this reason no certification.

Then there was the mysterious personnel issue that for reasons of confidentiality could not be discussed. Of course the former head of the program stated in The Journal News ("Spring Valley mayor says there's no site for day camp," July 15 article) that she would "take on the responsibility if her safety concerns were addressed." Delhomme, as we have all seen, has towering rages and can be very threatening in his demeanor. And then his attorney explained that because of the split in the Spring Valley village board, the board could not appoint a new director. A convenient excuse.

So, what was his real motivation? What we do know is that Delhomme appears to have no understanding, or at least no respect for the law, and has repeatedly taken the position: "I am the mayor," and I make all decisions in this village.
